Estate Agents Birmingham - Weoley Castle

The History of Weoley Castle

Weoley Castle is an area our team of Northfield estate agents knows very well. forms part of Northfield and is a residential area south-west of Birmingham city centre. They are in fact under 7 miles apart, with the A38 connecting the two. Head south along the A38 and you’ll reach Bromsgrove in similar time. The suburb of Weoley Castle is bordered by Selly Oak to the east, Harborne to the north, Bartley Green to the west, and Weoley Hill and Shenley Fields to the south.

The suburb dates from the 1930s and takes its name from a moated manor house, which is Grade 2 listed. This dates back to the 13th century and is a popular local attraction. It is one of the oldest buildings in Birmingham and is classed as a scheduled Ancient Monument of national importance.  Social housing dominates the area and in 1935, the then Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain attended the unveiling of a landmark figure of 10,000 homes in Birmingham.

Property and the Local Area

Ex-local authority houses range from £150,000 up to £200,000 whilst larger semi-detached homes sit around £225,000. Many sit on generous plots and property prices compare well with neighbouring areas. Selly Oak is close by where detached homes command prices well above £300,000. In terms of rental yield, several three bedroomed ex-local authority homes are available at around £700 to £900 per calendar month.

This suburb is well placed for leisure and retail facilities. Close by is Selly Manor Museum, dating back to the Tudor era; Leasowes Park with its 143 acres is a short drive away, as is Cannon Hill Park.
